Kim Hing Company's founder, Mr Tan Kim Pheow, traveled a long way from Teochew, a prefecture-level city in eastern Guangdong province of China, to Singapore in the late 1940s. Life was tough back then. Determined to provide for his family, he worked hard in the marine foodstuffs trading industry. After a few years, he established Kim Hing Company.

Established in 1957, the trading of raw Chinese delicacies such as Bird's Nest, Shark's Fin and marine foodstuffs had been the main source of business for Kim Hing Company. Mr Tan had a strong determination to deliver well-cleansed bird’s nest, which were difficult to find back then, manually cleaning them using half-filled pail of water with his wife often into the wee hours of the morning. His sincerity and hard work had enabled him to gain trust and confidence from his customers. With the introduction of new technology in the 1960's, Kim Hing ventured into food processing, especially that of Bird's Nest. The company continued its expansion into new product types and commercialization led to the formation of Dragon Brand Bird's Nest Pte Ltd.

Mr Tan, with his vision and ambition, managed to transform Dragon Brand Bird's Nest from a small enterprise in the early 1960s, into a reputable company entering the 21st Century.
